NETHERLANDS HONORARY CONSUL IN CHIANG MAI
The Netherlands’Government wishes to appoint an Honorary Consul in Chiang Mai
(covering the provinces of Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Lamphun, Lampang, Prae,
Phayao, Nan, Chiang Rai and Uttradit).
The main task of the Honorary Consul will be to support the work of the Consular
Section at the Netherlands’ Embassy in Bangkok. Training in Consular Assistance
will be provided.
Key duties undertaken by the successful candidate will include:
• Liaison with the Embassy and local authorities in assisting Dutch Nationals in
distress.
• Availability 24/7 to respond, in exceptional circumstances, to disasters involving
Dutch Nationals.
• Informing the Embassy soonest of any deaths, accidents, hospitalisations, or arrests
involving Dutch Nationals.
• Support the economic and agricultural departments of the Embassy in trade and
investment promotion.
• Supporting activities in the field of Holland promotion, in general.
Skills:
• Excellent command of English both written and spoken.
• Knowledge of Dutch and Thai society.
• Good communication skills are essential
• Genuine interest in assisting Dutch Nationals in distress
• A team player who is both approachable and a good listener
• Non-judgemental and flexible in approach
Financial compensation:
Incumbent will receive an allowance for actual expenses.

An Honorary Consul is appointed for a maximum of five years, but the appointment can
be extended under specific circumstances.

the envelope bears the reference “Job/Hon/Con”. All applications will be treated in the
strictest confidence.
Interviews will take place in Chiang Mai in March/April 2009 with applicants who have
been so duly informed. References and security clearance will be required for the
successful candidate.
